A rifle borescope is a great tool for inspecting the inside of your gun barrel. It’s especially useful for checking the condition of the barrel lands and grooves, as well as identifying any possible throat erosion that may have occurred so far. Even more important, it is the best tool possible to use after cleaning your rifle barrel, to see if you have done a good enough job and removed all the carbon build-up, as if you do not, then the carbon build-up will increase until you have what is called a carbon ring in your barrel, which will dramatically and negatively affect your consistency and rifle accuracy.
Borescopes used to be quite expensive and only worth it for gunsmiths to buy. Luckily with the fast pace of technology and manufacturing improvements, there are now a few options available that are not only incredibly inexpensive, but also handy and compact. We decided to try the Teslong Rifle Borescope for Iphones, Android devices and computers to see if they really can do the job at this low price.

It features a bright LED light that illuminates the inside of the barrel, and a high-quality camera that takes clear pictures or videos. The borescope is also equipped with a focus knob, so you can get a close-up view of the barrel surface.
Performance
The Teslong Rifle Borescope is a great tool for inspecting the inside of your gun barrel. It’s especially useful for checking the condition of the barrel lands and grooves, as well as identifying any possible throat erosion.
I simply downloaded the recommended App on my Android phone, plugged the borescope into my phone and immediately the light came on and the phone opened the app so I can see what the camera sees. I tried the standard inspection mirror first, only slightly turned out and locked for my 6.5 Creedmoor barrel and it was perfectly in focus.

Seeing the inside of your barrel opens up your whole world when it comes to cleaning your rifle. You are able to see if you’e cleaning it enough, and if your barrel is still good to go for a while or if it needs to be replaced. Now that I have this borescope, I simply do not know how I could have gone without it for so long. Especially for PRS and other competition shooters that shoot many rounds a month or year.

What Causes Throat Erosion?
Throat erosion is a condition that can occur in any type of firearm barrel. It is caused by the hot gases that are generated during the firing process. These gases erode the metal of the barrel, and over time, this can lead to a loss of accuracy and eventually failure of the barrel.
There are several factors that can contribute to throat erosion. One is the type of ammunition that is being used. If a barrel is constantly fired with high-powered ammunition, the wear will be greater than if it was fired with lower powered ammunition. Another factor is the rate of fire. The faster the rate of fire, the greater the amount of heat and pressure that is generated, and the greater the wear on the barrel.
Throat erosion can be minimized by careful selection of ammunition and by limiting the rate of fire. However, once throat erosion has begun, it is difficult to stop and the only real remedy is to replace the barrel.
If you are concerned about throat erosion, it is important to have your barrel inspected by a qualified gunsmith. They will be able to examine the inside of the barrel and give you an opinion on its condition.

What is a carbon ring in your rifle barrel?
Carbon rings in barrels are deposits that form on the inside of firearm barrels. They are caused by the burning of gunpowder residues and can build up over time. Carbon rings can cause accuracy problems and may need to be removed from the barrel periodically. Carbon rings are more likely to form in barrels that are not regularly cleaned.
The Teslong Borescope is a great tool to use after each barrel cleaning to ensure that you thoroughly cleaned the barrel, and also to check if you have a carbon ring in your barrel which may be causing accuracy problems.
